The 4-star graded De Doornkraal Historic Country House is a charming boutique hotel located on the Garden Route in the Heritage hub of the town Riversdale in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is surrounded by the architectural splendour of the old homesteads. The De Doornkraal Estate's vineyard stretches to the Vette River bordering the town. The historic De Doornkraal homestead is one of the original structures of the farm Doornkraal proclaimed in 1746. The homestead was built later that century after becoming the property of the current owner's ancestors, the Steyn family.

The splendid facilities will ensure that your stay with us is truly memorable. Riversdale, home of the majestic "Sleeping Beauty" mountain peak, is located on the Garden Route, a malaria-free area. It is the seat of the Hessequa municipality that forms part of the Eden District in the Western Cape province.
All 15 rooms offered are en suite. Internet is free of charge. Guests can enjoy a drink from the homely honesty bars in the two private lounges. Two cottages with lounges and patios supplement the normal accommodation. Guests experience total privacy since the hosts reside in the Edwardian homestead of the De Doornkraal Estate.
A pool is located in the garden for the exclusive use of guests. Enjoy a drink at the poolside or in the adjacent wine garden where a 200 year old vine is still bearing grapes .
The intimate "De Wingerdt" restaurant has a splendid wine list and serves cuisine of the region. Dinners can be booked in advance on the website when your room reservation is done. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is ample secure parking for guests.
De Doornkraal is eco-friendly; solar water heating is utilised for the en suite bathrooms. A health centre offering a range of services is located on the premises. For organisations that need a break from city life De Doornkraal offers conferencing in the renovated, air conditioned former freemasons "Lodge Frere" built in 1888 that forms part of the complex. Leisure activities include golf, birdwatching, sight seeing, picnics, fishing, fynbos hiking trails, and horse trails.

Riversdale is the gem of the Garden Route, located a casual 3 hours drive from Cape Town along the N2 highway, and is the seat of the Hessequa municipality of Eden District.
Riversdale is a small, flourishing country town nestled between the Langeberg mountain range and the sea. It makes an ideal stop-over for exploring the countryside. Riversdale's location gives it the advantage of being in close proximity of the sea and the open spaces of the Klein Karoo, both a comfortable 25 minute drive away.
The Klein Karoo can be reached via the scenic Garcia mountain pass adjacent to the famous Sleeping Beauty mountain peak.
